By request from the other organisers, some rules have been changed as of 2025-11-04. You may see the old rules page here.
Every event will now be held without a separate inspection phase, not just 3×3×3.
Competitors must use YongJun products for the competition. Competitors will also be provided with a YJ MGC Beta 3×3×3,a YJ Meta 3×3×3, and a YJ Mirror Cube for the competition, which they may keep after the competition.
Until further notice, we will still largely be following the WCA regulations, aside from the above additional exceptions.
We will generally follow the WCA regulations, with these exceptions:
The sighted events are held without inspection. They will be conducted similarly to the blindfolded solving events:
The scrambled puzzle will be delivered to the competitor within the cube cover in an arbitrary orientation.
The competitor must not have physical contact with the cube cover while starting the attempt.
The competitor has to lift the cube cover themself after starting the timer.
Penalty for lifting the cover before starting the timer: disqualification of the attempt (DNF).
There is no separate inspection phase. The competitor may, at their own choice, either inspect the puzzle before making any moves, or make moves on the puzzle immediately.
In case of ruling disputes, please look for one of the Cubewerkz competition organisers in lieu of a WCA Delegate.
For Mirror Blocks, all six sides must be clearly distinguishable from each other. Some versions have only two or only four distinct thicknesses; those are not allowed for this competition.
Centre orientation does not need to be solved.
Scrambling orientation is thickest layer on top, thickest adjacent layer in front.
For 3×3×3 One-Handed (no inspection), the competitor must use only one hand to operate the puzzle. As there is no separate inspection phase, this applies as soon as the timer has started.
The "one hand" restriction does not apply to lifting the cube cover. The competitor may use two hands and/or any other body parts to lift the cube cover.
The competitor may use different hands for solving the cube across different attempts. For example, they may use their left hand for the first attempt and their right hand for the subsequent attempts.
Competitors must use YongJun products for the competition.
Key points if you are not familiar with WCA competitions:
The sighted events are ranked by "average of 5" (trimmed mean of five results with the best and worst results removed).
The 3×3×3 Blindfolded event is ranked by "best of 3" (best of three results).
The sighted events are held in a best-of-2 / average-of-5 cutoff format.
If either of your first two attempts meets the cutoff, you will have three more attempts in this round, from which an average of 5 will be computed.
If neither of your first two attempts meets the cutoff, you will not have any more attempts in this round, and your average of 5 will be considered to be DNF.
The 3×3×3 Blindfolded event is instead held in a best-of-3 format with a cumulative time limit of <10 minutes.
The time taken for each attempt is recorded, even if it is an unsuccessful solve attempt (DNF). The judge will stop the competitor if the time taken reaches 10 minutes.
Results are recorded in seconds to two decimal places. The third decimal place reported by the timer is truncated (i.e. rounding down). Averages are computed from these already-rounded single results and then rounded to the nearest centisecond.
For 3×3×3 Blindfolded, competitors must provide their own blindfold.
Competitors must know how to do the events they have registered for. (WCA 2k6)
When it's your turn to compete:
At the start of your group, submit your puzzle into the cube cover with your name on it, then proceed to the waiting area.
A judge will call your name and guide you to a solving station, whereafter they will place the cube cover containing your scrambled puzzle on the mat.
Start the timer, solve the puzzle, then stop the timer.
After the score sheet has been signed to acknowledge the result:
If you have attempts left in the current round, stay at the solving station.
If you have finished your attempts in the current round, take your puzzle and leave the solving station.
Penalties may be applied to the solve attempt for rule violations. Penalties for different rule violations are cumulative. Examples:
(WCA A6e1) The competitor may not apply any moves to the puzzle after stopping the timer. Penalty: DNF.
(WCA A6e2) The competitor may not touch the puzzle after stopping the timer, before the result has been signed. Penalty: +2 seconds.
If the puzzle is not solved when the timer is stopped:
There are other penalties; this is not a complete list.
Competitors should not spectate other competitors who are competing in the same group unless they have already finished all of their attempts.
Competitors who cannot maintain decorum may be disqualified from the competition, at our discretion. (WCA 2f, 2g, 2h, 2k)
Competition instructions will be given in English. Please ensure that you have the appropriate linguistic accommodations, if necessary.
