We will generally follow the WCA regulations, with these exceptions:
The 3×3×3 No Inspection event is held without inspection. It will be held similarly to the blindfolded solving events:
The scrambled puzzle will be delivered to the competitor within the cube cover in an arbitrary orientation.
The competitor must not have physical contact with the cube cover while starting the attempt.
The competitor has to lift the cube cover themself after starting the timer.
Penalty for lifting the cover before starting the timer: disqualification of the attempt (DNF).
There is no separate inspection phase. The competitor may, at their own choice, either inspect the puzzle before making any moves, or make moves on the puzzle immediately.
In case of ruling disputes, please look for one of the Cubewerkz competition organisers in lieu of a WCA Delegate.
For Mirror Blocks, all six sides must be clearly distinguishable from each other. Some versions have only two or only four distinct thicknesses; those are not allowed for this competition.
Centre orientation does not need to be solved.
Scrambling orientation is thickest layer on top, thickest adjacent layer in front.
Key points if you are not familiar with WCA competitions:
The sighted events are ranked by "average of 5" (trimmed mean of five results with the best and worst results removed).
The 3×3×3 Blindfolded event is ranked by "best of 3" (best of three results).
The sighted events are held in a best-of-2 / average-of-5 cutoff format.
If either of your first two attempts meets the cutoff, you will have three more attempts in this round, from which an average of 5 will be computed.
If neither of your first two attempts meets the cutoff, you will not have any more attempts in this round, and your average of 5 will be considered to be DNF.
The 3×3×3 Blindfolded event is instead held in a best-of-3 format with a cumulative time limit of <10 minutes.
The time taken for each attempt (as recorded on the timer, plus any applicable penalties) is recorded, even if it is an unsuccessful solve attempt. The judge will stop the competitor if the time taken so far reaches 10 minutes.
Each competitor is to provide their own puzzles for their solve attempts. For 3×3×3 Blindfolded, they must additionally provide their own blindfold, which must be opaque and adequately block their vision.
Exception: If you do not have a Mirror Blocks cube, you may borrow one from the organisers. Please treat it with care! (You are still expected to know how to solve one.)
Competitors must know how to do the events they have registered for.
What to do when it's your turn to compete:
At the start of your group, submit your puzzle into the cube cover with your name on it, and proceed to the waiting area.
Your puzzle must be solved before submission.
When your name is called, a judge will guide you to a solving station and place the cube cover containing your scrambled puzzle on the mat.
Start the timer and solve!
After both the judge and you have signed on the score sheet to acknowledge the result:
If you have attempts left in the current round, stay at the solving station and wait for the next scramble.
If you have finished your attempts in the current round, you may take your puzzle and return to the competitor area.
Penalties may be applied to the solve attempt for rule violations. Penalties for different rule violations are cumulative. Examples:
Competition instructions will be given in English. Please ensure that you have the appropriate linguistic accommodations, if necessary.
