I am interested in studying self-determination, agency, decision-making, and motivation in autistic young adults as they transition to adulthood. I particularly hope to focus on adapting and enhancing supports for autistic young adults working toward improving their unique independence goals. I am excited to be working with Dr. Brendan Rich and Dr. Sandra Barrueco in the creation of CASP (Catholic University’s Autism Support Program). I have also received an NSF GRFP to study the role of forward thinking in agentic cognition.

I am interested in the role of parental structure and familial disruption in the (mal)development of inhibitory control, externalization, and self-regulation. Ultimately, I hope to research and develop interventions to attenuate some of the behavioral inhibitions that often accompany paternal deprivation.

My primary interest is developing community-based interventions that address the unique needs of high-risk children and their families. I am passionate about working directly with marginalized and minority populations. Helping children face mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, and difficulty with social interactions. Implementing targeted treatments that significantly improve their overall well-being and integration into their community without risk-taking behaviors. In particular, I want to find ways to make interventions more accessible to children and young adults in impoverished areas.

I am deeply passionate about supporting maltreated and atypically developing children—particularly those with ASD—from understudied populations by designing, assessing, and implementing interventions. As an aspiring mental health worker, I am also eager to assist youth in need by observing and furthering the efficacy of group therapy. Most of all, I hope to explore the intersectionality of child maltreatment and atypical development in children, the efficacy of CBT and art-related therapies, and make treatments more accessible to underserved communities.
