In this class - and throughout the rest of your academic career (high school and beyond!) you'll be using some form of paper format "school". For English classes, we use MLA - which stands for Modern Language Association. In many other content areas, you may be asked to use APA (American Psychological Association).
If you learn MLA, it's easy to adjust and adapt to APA (and vice-versa).
HERE'S THE KEY: You don't have to memorize all the rules of any of them...BUT you do need to know how to FIND the answers to help you format your papers correctly!
When I say "Ask the OWL" - I'm referring to this wonderful resource: Purdue Online Writing Lab (get it ...O.W.L. ??) It has all the answers about ANY paper formatting - no matter which "school" you learn first!
