Ensuring thriving digital futures in the era of AI must be grounded in a sound human and ethical foundation. Teachers are not only educators—they are role models, critical mediators, and essential guides. We hold the key to ensuring that AI in education fosters equity, critical thinking, and ethical reflection. Our vision is rooted in a belief that teachers must be supported, not overwhelmed, by AI. They should be empowered to leverage AI’s benefits, while remaining vigilant about its risks. To support this transformation, we have aligned our work with UNESCO’s AI Competency Framework for Teachers (2024), and established concrete goals to guide our progress and measure our impact.
By the end of 2027, Casa Thomas Jefferson’s teachers will be supported into completing the “Acquire” level in the first four aspects stated by UNESCO’s "AI competency framework for teachers", namely 1. Human-centered mindset, 2. Ethics of AI, 3. AI foundations and applications, and 4. AI pedagogy.
By the end of 2027, 100% of Casa Thomas Jefferson’s course designers and 80% of teachers at Casa Thomas Jefferson will complete the Acquire level in the four core dimensions. 100% of course designers will complete both the Acquire and Deepen levels.
By 2030, at least 50% of Casa Thomas Jefferson’s teachers will be supported into completing the “Deepen” level in the first four aspects stated by UNESCO’s "AI competency framework for teachers", namely 1. Human-centered mindset, 2. Ethics of AI, 3. AI foundations and applications, and 4. AI pedagogy.
Also, at this point, Casa Thomas Jefferson’s designers will be better equiped to co-create and facilitate the Gen AI teacher-development program: Vision 2030.
