Achieving 21st Century Skills

American Spaces are one-of-a-kind vivid platforms for people to connect with new ideas, other people, tools, and the American Culture. The Achieving 21st Century Skills project promotes education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion--with an emphasis on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and design, and Math) that augment the acquisition of the English language for specific purposes, such as workforce development and academic achievements.

In 2015, the United States Embassy issued a call-to-action for BNC leaders around the country to commit to the Achieving 21st Century Skills Project - a Mission Brazil American Spaces education initiative that provides youth with collaborative learning experiences through the application of exciting Smithsonian material and maker activities that augment the acquisition of the English language for specific purposes, such as workforce development, academic success in higher education, small business start-ups, etc. In the following years, some BNCs committed to dedicating a space, designating a champion, and showcasing student work. During the Maker Day in September 2018, participating BNCs affirmed their commitment to the growing movement for more creative, student-centered learning. In 2019, we are expanding the call-to-action for BNC leaders around the country to commit to growing the next generation of Brazilian youth that deepen their English learning and digital literacy skills while exploring, making, and sharing their created multimedia products across virtual networks.
