Seal of Biliteracy FAQ's

What is the Seal of Biliteracy? 

The Seal of Biliteracy awards hard working World Language learners who are able to speak, read, comprehend and write in two languages at a high level of proficiency.  New Jersey became the 17th state to adopt the State Seal of Biliteracy in 2016.

How do I register for the test?

What are the requirements to take the test for the SEAL of Biliteracy? 

You should be a current Junior taking French, Latin or Spanish or a current Senior who tested for the Seal of Biliteracy In their Junior year but did not earn a Seal.  

Have a cumulative average of 92 or better (in your language class only) 

Receive an endorsement from your World Language teacher or if you are a senior no longer taking French, Latin or Spanish, your most recent World Language teacher.    

When is the test ? 

Test dates vary by school, please contact your school or language teacher for specific dates.  

What languages can students test for ? 

Currently, students may take the test for the languages that are offered at their school.  (AAHS, BTHS, CHS, MAST - Spanish, HTHS - French, Latin or Spanish) 

What should I write on my college applications ? 

Candidate for the New Jersey Seal of Biliteracy. You may also wish to include your test score.  

What is the price of the Seal of Biliteracy ? 

The cost of the test to earn the Seal of Biliteracy is being covered by MCVSD.  

My school is on a semester schedule and I am not currently taking a World Language class.  Can I still participate? 

Yes! Your cumulative average will be based on the classes you have taken thus far.  For current Juniors, the test will be in the Spring as a way to expose students at AAHS and CHS to as much of their second semester World Language classes as possible.
