Daily Sacrament: Communion With All Sinners and Saints

Glass (kiln cast), light box

8" x 86" x 3.5"

A look at the making process...

Process for the work starts with casting wax forms of the bottles and attaching cone reservoirs glass melting once the piece is ready for the kiln.

The wax forms are coated with a plaster covering starting with a thin detail layer.

Layer upon layer of plaster creates a sort of mummy around the form before the wax is melted out to create an investment mold.

Flower pots make excellent holders for the glass and sit atop the plaster investment molds. As the kiln reaches full temperature, the glass flows into the plaster forms below.

Cooled and released from the plaster molds, the glass bottles still have their reservoir cones. These are removed and the base of each form is cold worked so that every bottle stands level.
