Students in the summer of 2020 contended with multiple challenges. For example, many people in our communities are standing up for black lives by protesting and calling for changes in policing and in many other policies that disproportionately negatively impact black lives. At the same time, many communities were asked to shelter in place to reduce the spread of covid-19. Thus, we were not able to meet in person as a class and we did all of our work remotely.
Each student or team of students completed an online portfolio that focused on an issue they chose. The developed an argument with supporting evidence. They also practiced seeing their issue from another perspective and so they developed a counter argument and provided evidence for that perspective. They had just 8 weeks to complete their work.
