The Constitutional Superheroes project is a culminating assessment used at the end of a learning segment on the U.S. Constitution and the three branches of government. After studying structure, powers, and checks and balances, students design a superhero representing one branch, using superpowers to show constitutional authority and weaknesses to show limits on power. Every creative choice must be justified with evidence from the Constitution. The project is designed to push students beyond memorization and into application, requiring them to translate abstract civic concepts into a clear, accurate, and meaningful representation of how the constitutional system actually works.
Being a teacher is like being a lantern bearer...
When I think about teaching, the metaphor that comes to mind is that of a lantern bearer. Teaching is like holding a lantern in the dark, lighting the way for students as they navigate the challenges of learning and life. I'm not there to tell them exactly where to go, but to provide the light that helps them see their path more clearly. My goal is to guide them through uncertainty, offering support and knowledge so they can find their own way forward with confidence.
