Capilano Students' Union Indigenous Engagement

Indigenous Students Liaison

The highest governing body of the Capilano Students' Union, our board of directors, includes a dedicated seat for an Indigenous students liaison. With a seat on the board, the Indigenous students liaison brings an Indigenous perspective to the advocacy work of the students' union, including in the development of our policy positions, programming, and helping to set our priorities for the advocacy that we do with all levels of government and the university. Elections to the Capilano Students' Union board of directors are held in general elections during the Spring term.

Indigenous Students Collective

The Capilano Students' Union provides resources and support for an Indigenous Students Collective, convened by the Indigenous students liaison. The Indigenous students collective gives Indigenous members the chance to make the Kéxwusm-áyakn student centre, Capilano University, and the Capilano Students' Union better places for students. It is a way for Indigenous students to organize events that foster awareness of Indigenous culture and issues on Capilano University's campuses, or affecting Indigenous peoples more broadly. The collective is dedicated to addressing the very specific needs of Indigenous students, while making certain that supports are available for those students.
