To Everyone Involved in this Act of Kindness
I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Charleston Elves organization and everyone involved in this absolutely fantastic opportunity that allows me and my wife to attend Augusta National for The Masters Tournament. This had been a lifelong dream. Our long struggle with multiple health issues makes this incredible gift even more meaningful..
I have been an avid golfer most my life and have played for 40+ years. It was a joy to introduce my wife, Irene, to the game shortly after we married 10 years ago. Like most golfers, It has always been our dream to attend the Masters—and most know how difficult it is to get tickets through the Masters lottery. I’ve tried with no luck for all the years it’s been offered Irene and I have not stopped smiling since receiving the wonderful wonderful news. It’s difficult to put into words what this means to us.
I came to the United States in 2005 after being asked by my company to transfer to Worcester, MA. Irene and I met shortly after I arrived here and got married soon afterwards. We relocated to South Carolina to take advantage of the weather and enjoy year-round golf. My health, unfortunately, has not been the best since my retirement and I was forced to stop playing the sport that has brought so much joy to my life and marriage. A series of surgeries, including an emergency quadruple bypass, a blocked carotid artery and both total knee replacements, and the news of being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, rendered me unable to play golf. Many months of treatment and side effects endured and while the future is unknown, I have recently begun playing golf again in an attempt to recover my strength and stamina.
Thank you once again for this once in a lifetime opportunity and a special thanks to Brian McIvor for your kind heart and to the Charleston Elves for their generosity. You have made me a very happy man!!!!
Best Regards
David and Irene
