What’s New in Pre-K
Spring has been such an exciting and busy time in Pre-K! Students have been learning, creating, and growing so much over the past two months.
For Earth Day, we learned about ways we can take care of our Earth by reusing, recycling, and throwing garbage in the trash instead of on the ground. As part of our Earth Day activities, students created their own “ocean in a bottle.” They filled water bottles with water, added blue food coloring, and decorated them with fish stickers to mimic the ocean. They had so much fun with this hands-on activity while learning about caring for our planet.
We also spent time learning about rhyming words and patterns. Students practiced identifying rhyming words by matching picture cards and enjoyed listening for words that sound alike. During our pattern activities, students created their own patterns using colorful bears and other manipulatives. They were very proud of the creative patterns they made independently.
Another important focus in the classroom has been encouraging independence. We have been working on taking responsibility for our belongings. Students are now independently packing their backpacks at dismissal time, and they are doing a wonderful job!
This spring, we also learned the saying, “April showers bring May flowers.” We enjoyed decorating beautiful umbrellas with raindrops that displayed our students' names. It was a fun way to celebrate the rainy spring season.
For the month of April, students learned the letters L, M, N, and O. During May, students learned the letters P, Q, R, S, and T. As we wrap up the school year, they will continue practicing how to recognize and write the remaining letters of the alphabet. They are so excited and proud of how many letters they have learned this year. They have worked incredibly hard, and we are so proud of all of their accomplishments.
In May, we also welcomed 10 caterpillars into our classroom! Students learned all about the life cycle of a butterfly and loved observing the caterpillars' growth each day. They created beautiful symmetrical butterfly paintings along with colorful tulip art to celebrate spring. We are eagerly waiting for the butterflies to emerge from their chrysalises, so we can release them together.
We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our Pre-K parents who visited the classroom and shared such wonderful activities with the children. Your visits brought so much joy and excitement to our classroom, and the children truly enjoyed every moment.
As the school year comes to an end, we want to thank each and every family for your support, partnership, and trust throughout the year. It has been such a wonderful year filled with learning, laughter, and growth. We will truly miss each and every one of our Pre-K families very much.
