All students in the Upper School here at CSH can apply to become Makerspace Apprentices. Apprenticeships will not be for credit or be taken as a substitute for a class. This is an extracurricular activity if you'd like to further your involvement at the CSH Makerspace. Please read the requirements below, if you are still interested, please fill out the form at the end of the requirements.
20 hours throughout the year
10 hours by January 31st
10 hours by May 15th
Host 2 workshops
1 by January 31st
1 by May 15th
Attend monthly 20 minute morning meeting to show “What I am working on!”
1 unexcused absence for the monthly meeting
Everyone is required to be certified on laser cutter and sewing machine this year!
1 of these has to be done by January 31st (ideally both!)
Students are encouraged to utilize their free periods ~1 time per cycle to be in the makerspace to complete hours
Students will be expected to assist in “integration” projects with other teachers

Students are encouraged to develop their own projects and ways of utilizing the tools

Each apprentice that stays with the apprenticeship program have opportunies to continue to advance their apprenticeship throughout their time here at CSH.
Level 1 Apprentice
You must have earned 2 badges by the end of the their first year as an apprentice
Level 2 Apprentice
You must have earned 2-3 Badges the end of your second year as an apprentice
Can lead at least one workshop within the academic year
Senior Apprentice
Can lead at least three workshops within the academic year (See workshop guidelines below)
Badges in 4 or more makerspace areas
Must be able to at least give training on a machine of their choice to other students
They must however, be able to train Level 2 apprentices if the senior apprentice will not be returning to the space the following year (i.e. senior apprentices are graduating or have no space in their schedule to participate in the apprenticeship)
Students should select a time to run the workshop and prepare a presentation. Email both of these to Ms. Mitchell and Ms. Boerner.
All workshops are led by 1 student/individual. No collaboration unless the director states otherwise.
You may have a mentor help you with your workshop but presentations of workshops and workshop activities will be led by the individual who proposed the workshop initially.
Workshops that are approved must give an initial test run before the actual workshop.
This is to ensure that any hiccups or concerns that students may have that can be addressed before the actual workshop.
Students could lead a workshop for a group of friends on making Christmas ornaments using the Laser Cutter/3D Printers/Cricut/Soldering Station
Students could lead a workshop on how religion class can use the 3D printer for a project
A student could assist in MS/US technology classes
