Counselors, PTA Host Staff Wellness Day

On Wednesday, December 11th, the BHMS Counseling Department hosted a winter wellness event for all staff. The staff were treated to a hot chocolate bar, a selection of holiday teas and coffees, sweet and salty treats as well as self-care and mindfulness activities. This event was designed to create community and promote whole school wellness. Thank you to the BHMS PTA's staff wellness committee for making this event possible and to the Decatur Education Foundation for providing the generous teacher innovation grant that allowed the Beacon Hill counselors to attend the GSCA state conference where this great idea was shared!

Counselors receive DEF Grant
to attend State Conference!

We are excited to share that the school counselors were recently awarded the Teacher Innovation Grant from the Decatur Education Foundation (DEF). This generous support from DEF allowed us to attend the Georgia School Counselors Association (GSCA) Conference in Savannah from November 6-8.  The conference was a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with other counselors across the state, learn about the latest trends and best practices in school counseling, and bring back ideas to enrich our school community.

Some sample sessions we attended include:

We are so grateful to DEF for making this possible, and we look forward to sharing what we learn and putting it into action.

Thank you for your continued support of school counselors and the Decatur Education Foundation!

Name/Gender Change Requests

Parents and families have the option to request a name change for your student. If you wish to have your child's chosen or preferred name updated in our records, please complete the name/gender change request form. Please note that the updated name and gender marker will be reflected in our Infinite Campus and Google Workspace applications. However, it's important to keep in mind that only legal names will be used on official documents such as transcripts requested by outside sources.

If a legal name change has occurred, please contact your child's school to have the student's records updated accordingly. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for helping us ensure that our records are accurate and respectful of each student's preferences.

Congratulations, BHMS Counselors!!!
