Every member of the DGN Orchestra is encouraged to take private lessons! Private study offers students an opportunity to work one-on-one with a specialist on their instrument and receive more individual attention than curricular orchestra classes can offer. Lessons are equally valuable for students at any skill level! That being said, it is strongly encouraged that a student takes private lessons if they are interested in auditioning for ILMEA District/All-State orchestras, performing at Solo & Ensemble, and/or advancing to membership in Symphonic Orchestra.
We are proud to offer lessons during the school day at North High. Private lesson teachers are not district employees, but rather screened independent contractors. Payment for lessons is handled between the private instructor and the student's family.
Students taking private lessons during the school day typically take ½ period lessons (25 minutes) once a week, and are scheduled during a study hall or music class. All private teachers are asked to adhere to a standard rate range for lesson time (typically $25-$30 per weekly lesson). Lesson rates at off-campus sites vary by teacher and their professional experience.
If you are interested in lessons but may be limited by financial need, please reach out to a Ms. West about available financial assistance.
Meet our lesson studio faculty below! These are the teachers that come into the building regularly to provide lessons to students during, and after, the school day.
