CLEANING PROTOCOL
Classroom/building daily deep cleaning protocols including electro-static disinfecting will continue through the school year.
COVID-19 TESTING IN CSD17 SCHOOLS (TEST-TO-STAY)
The BinaxNOW test will be available to any symptomatic student or staff member at each school. Results are provided within 15 minutes of testing. If students are experiencing mild symptoms due to another documented pre-existing condition, such as allergies, and receive a negative test, they will be allowed to remain at school. Students who discover they are ill while at home in the morning or the evening before may make an appointment to be tested at the school for an immediate result. Ill students who come in to test and receive a negative result and do not have a chronic medical explanation are expected to return home until symptoms resolve and they are fever-free for 24 hours. Siblings will not have to isolate during this time.
The 'Test-to-Stay' Protocol is available to students and staff in Channahon School District 17. "As has been documented by CDC, if schools test close contacts, as defined above, on days two and five from date of exposure by a PCR or rapid antigen or molecular emergency use authorization (EUA)-approved test, close contacts are permitted to remain in the classroom as long as the results are negative.” Channahon School District will utilize our BinaxNOW rapid antigen test for this purpose (provided by the State of Illinois at no cost). Please note, the 'Test-to-Stay' Protocol is only available to students who are identified as 'close contacts' in the school setting (bus, classroom, extracurriculars) where preventative efforts such as distancing, disinfecting, etc. Students who are identified as a close contact outside of school may not participate in the 'Test-to-Stay' Protocol.
DAILY HOME CERTIFICATION
Parents/Guardians will be required to verify that students do not have a temperature and are free of COVID-19 symptoms daily before students board the bus or before they are dropped off at school. Check-in on the 'app' is no longer required.
FACE COVERINGS
Per the Governor's Executive Order (Number 85), face coverings must be worn in all school district buildings and on buses, regardless of vaccination status, as recommended by the CDC and the Illinois Department of Public Health. Channahon School District 17 shall return to the language approved in our original plan as soon as this executive order is lifted. Any student without a mask will be presented with a mask on the bus or at school. Students who do not wear a mask must be immediately picked up by a parent.
*The district has thoroughly researched the legality of this mandate, including numerous lawsuits brought against the Governor in 2020 challenging his authority to issue disaster proclamations, including mask mandates. These efforts failed on every attempt. Further, the Illinois State Board of Education has informed schools who do not follow the mandate that they jeopardize recognition status, tort immunity protections, and loss of insurance coverages.
ILLNESS IN SCHOOL
Temperature checks will be conducted on any student or employee who exhibits any COVID-19 symptoms in any school or district workplace. Any student who exhibits these symptoms after having arrived at school will be isolated and parents will have an opportunity to have their child testing using BinaxNow rapid antigen test. Parents will be expected to pick-up their ill child; however, healthy siblings may stay in school if the afflicted student's rapid antigen test results are negative. Parents who choose not to test their child at school must take all children home until a negative test or an alternative diagnosis is provided.
PERSONAL CLEANLINESS
Hand sanitizer will be available in all classrooms. Students will have regular opportunities to wash hands. Disinfecting spray and wipes will be readily available to employees throughout the day
QUARANTINE
If a student or employee tests positive for COVID19, they will follow physician’s orders including quarantine for ten days after the onset of symptoms and may return upon the presentation of a physician's note.
Students/employees that were in close contact (defined as within three feet for more than fifteen minutes) of an individual with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis will be required to self-quarantine for 5 days from last exposure, at which time they may return to school if they remain symptom free. Those who are close contacts at school may utilize the Test-to-Stay Program. *Parents who choose to produce a doctor's note proving their child's vaccination OR prior Covid-19 infection (within 90 days as required by the IDPH) will not be required to quarantine their child.
REPORTING
For the 2021-2022 school year, positive Covid-19 cases will be reported online in an aggregate format. This will be a live document and will be updated daily. Positive case letters will still be sent home by schools in the event there is a positive case in the classroom. Parents of students considered to be 'close contacts' who do not wish for them to 'Test-to-Stay' will be called to pick up their children.
RESTROOMS
Restroom procedures will be established at each school to limit the number of students transitioning in the hallway and in restrooms at one time.
SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIREMENTS
Social distancing of at least three (3) feet will be expected at all times including hallways, gyms, cafeteria, etc. Social distancing includes seating students at least three (3) feet from other students. Students will have assigned seats in all classrooms.
SPORTS AND CLUBS
Student sports and clubs will be held during the 2021-2022 school year. CSD17 will consider guidance from the IESA in determining illness prevention strategies. Face coverings will be required for indoor sports until further notice.
SUPPLIES
Students must use their own school supplies and keep belongings separate or in their backpacks during the day. Every attempt will be made for students to use their own equipment; however, all shared classroom equipment, including instruments, will be disinfected after use.
Since 'social distancing' of three feet cannot be accomplished in this configuration, students are required by the Illinois Department of Public Health to wear a face mask while riding the school bus to-and-from school. Students will have assigned seats on buses throughout the school year.
Bus stop locations are limited to one stop to and from school. While students are not required to ride the bus everyday, it will be the family’s responsibility to transport the student if the single assigned stop will not be used on any specific day. Please notify the school office at your child's school any day they will not be riding the bus.
Buses will be disinfected daily between routes and at the end of the day.
VACCINE STATUS
Covid-19 vaccine status will not be requested of students or staff, nor will it be considered in developing class lists. Parents have the right to voluntarily provide vaccine status to the school nurse in the event their child is identified as a close contact. Students who have been vaccinated or have had prior infection within 90 days are not required to quarantine following exposure to a positive case unless they become symptomatic.
VISITORS
Parents and visitors may be offered an opportunity to volunteer in the school; however, volunteering will take place in communal spaces as opposed to the classroom.
WATER BOTTLES
Students are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle from home to school; bottles may be refilled throughout the day using water bottle refill stations. School drinking fountains will not be available.
