The Catholic Schools Center of Excellence (CSCOE) provides this collection of resources as a service to educators seeking continuing education opportunities for licensure renewal. Inclusion in this list does not constitute endorsement by CSCOE. These resources have not been fully vetted for complete consistency with Church teaching, though they have been used reliably by Catholic educators.

CSCOE is not responsible for verifying that any course or offering meets individual state licensure requirements. Teachers are encouraged to confirm that selected options fulfill their specific renewal criteria before enrolling.

EQ Learn offers affordable evidence-based online continuing education for educators, including courses for re-licensure and elective mini-courses for professional learning for educators, administrators, and student support services personnel.

Erika's Lighthouse is a nonprofit dedicated to educating and raising awareness about depression and suicide, and encouraging good mental health. Their website (accessible with a free account), contains a professional development webinar on suicide prevention and school and classroom resources.

Course Length: Approximately 3-5 Hours (5 CEUs)

TIP: Teachers can pick and choose which modules they want, but have to complete all to get the certifcate of completion.

Classroom Wise is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting schools with student and teacher wellbeing and mental health literacy. The online modules are excellent for new teachers or teachers without a lot of classroom management training, but provide strong professional development for even seasoned teachers. The modules focus on establishing rules and routines in the classroom, active listening, mental health literacy, teaching social skills and emotional regulation skills, the difference between concerning and typical behaviors, and co-regulation skills for teachers. The content is relevant for elementary and middle school teachers, with some modules having different tracks for each. There is a wealth of implementation resources available on their website.

From the University of St. Thomas, the module "Becoming Trauma Informed" gives educators a basic understanding of trauma and its impact on children, along with strategies for intervention. The modules also support educators in identifying secondary trauma, using strategies for their own wellbeing, and knowing when to refer a child for more support.

Project Momentum is on a mission to provide high-quality professional learning opportunities and resources for educators to improve instruction for multilingual learners. Project Momentum has 20 self-paced CEU courses for educators, offering nearly 60 unique hours of learning opportunities. They have developed a comprehensive handbook for Multilingual Learner Program Coordinators and created free and accessible resources and tools to support educators in elevating equity and excellence in education for multilingual learners. Project Momentum also offers free micro-credentialing opportunities, including the Multilingual Learner Leadership Micro-Credential for current and aspiring school administrators.

The Office of American Indian Education is working with the Tribal Sovereignty Institute at the University of Minnesota Duluth to develop an eLearning series for educators focusing on Indigenous-oriented education. The goal of these eLearning courses is to better equip K-12 educators, staff, and administrators to serve Native learners and families. These courses will allow participants to cultivate knowledge about Native people and nations that they can use when teaching and for engaging with Tribal governments.

Course #1: Key Concepts and Terms

The course is endorsed by PELSB to count toward the new license renewal requirement specific to American Indian History and Culture and educators can earn one continuing education credit upon completion. Self-register for the course on Canvas or sign-up through an existing Canvas account with the join code YBTYR9.

Course #2: Federal Indian Policy

The second eLearning course on Federal Indian Policy is available at https://mndepted.catalog.instructure.com/ using code 4JR34P. Educators who complete this course can earn one continuing education unit (CEU) credit.

Put together and taught by a local Minnesota administrator, Minnesota Teacher Relicensure offers cost effective solutions to fulfill PELSB and BOSA requirements. The courses are online and self paced, and the expertly curated content can be directly applied in the classroom. A certificate of completion (ceu) is provided upon completion of the course.

The Cultural Competency course is approved by PELSB.

Highly experienced arts specialists at Perpich Center provide regular professional develoment for educators in all areas of the arts. Each spring, they do a series of relicensure sessions that focus on application in arts classrooms. These sessions support educators by building knowledge and skills, and by providing a toolbox of arts-focused resources to improve student success. The goal of the Perpich Center Professional Development and Resource Programs is to build teacher and administrator capacity statewide so arts educators can provide innovative, inclusive, standards-based, measurable, and student-centered learning in and through the arts.

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) offers a variety of professional development opportunities designed to support the early childhood and early school age professionals. While these resources are targeted mostly for preschool, much of the content is relevant to teachers K-3.

The Cox Campus section provides information on free, asynchronous online early literacy training and resources for early childhood teachers. The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) is collaborating with Cox Campus to tailor this professional learning to the needs of MN Early Childhood Educators, ensuring the content aligns with the goals and requirements of the READ Act. All Early Childhood Cox Campus courses are Develop approved, and literacy-related courses should meet the literacy requirement for early elementary teachers. The downloadable PDF with more information provides instructions on how to submit course completion for DEVELOP credit.
The Canvas Courses section provides and overview of asynchronous, self-paced courses for those working in early childhood and early education settings. The courses include early intervention, trauma informed practices for early childhood, etc.
The COMPASS section is provides information on MDE's statewide system for continuous improvement, but nonpublic schools are not eligibile for these resources.

The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a research-based, multi-sensory, phonetic approach that is the hallmark of The Reading Center’s team of specially trained tutors and is used throughout our programming. The Reading Center is an MDE Read Act approved resource for continued professional development.
