We will have 5 quizzes throughout the quarter. See the calendar for quiz dates and topics.
Grading
Quizzes account for 25% of your final grade.
These quizzes replace our exams as summative assessments - adjust your expectations accordingly! Don't expect to get 100% on each one. In the past few quarters, our exam median tended to be 70%. Some quizzes may be more challenging than others.
Logistics
Quizzes will be administered in Gradescope. You may take the quiz anytime during the 24-hour period during which it is assigned. You can update answers and turn in incomplete ones as needed before the deadline.
Each quiz will generally cover material from the previous homework(s) and section(s), potentially some lecture and reading material from that timeframe (e.g. all material will be on the relevant topics, you won't have questions from yesterday's lecture).
Open book, open lectures, open section, but CLOSED to talking with other students or referencing outside resources.
You can expect the quiz to take about 30-40 minutes to complete on average.
Accommodations
Aim to at least view the quiz earlier during the day and have uninterrupted internet access for those 30-40 minutes. If you are busy the whole day you should at least have time to take the quiz during lecture. No accommodations will be made for students who have trouble with last-minute submissions. The only accommodations for quizzes that will be made are those that correspond to the University's official accessibility guidelines, which must be reflected in your student account.
Make-up quizzes will only be given in case of a serious emergency. If you miss a quiz, even if you are sick or injured, you must contact Rob BEFORE the quiz deadline (or arrange for someone to do so).
Collaboration
QUIZZES MUST BE COMPLETED INDIVIDUALLY with no communication with anyone about content or answers.
As noted in the syllabus, we take academic misconduct seriously and will give students a score of 0 for any quiz for which they violate the Student Code of Conduct.
Study resources
Section handouts have good practice problems.
The table below lists problems from former exams, categorized by the topic and format so you can focus your study. The "mixed" topic has many true/false style questions. (Will be updated with even more problems later.)
Since this format is still new, we do not have practice quizzes available. You can expect similar types of questions to the ones from former exams, just fewer of them per test.
