TANBO (Technology-Aided Nutrient Balance and Observation) is a versatile, multi-sensor platform designed to facilitate crop yield optimization specifically in small-scale farming settings. The system leverages a range of low-power, and low-cost environmental sensors and is built on a robust data collection infrastructure enabled by Internet of Things (IoT) wireless technology. For data analytics, TANBO employs a private cloud service powered with Artificial Intelligence capabilities. The real-world experiment were carried in a four-month period, for two years in a row. Upon concluding these field studies, the TANBO platforms are slated for broader applications targeting different crops and undergoing further refinements. Since 2021, our team has been addressing the significant issue of soil underutilization in Japan, focusing on small-scale farms that primarily are owned mostly by an ageing population.
