In Year 9, students begin the GCSE course while revisiting and consolidating knowledge from Years 7 and 8. This dual focus allows us to deepen understanding and give students greater opportunity to develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills. Alongside continued development of trigonometry, probability and number, we introduce new content in quadratics, bearings and surds. These topics are designed to challenge students and build the resilience and confidence they will need going into Year 10.
Through units on angles and bearings, quadratics, and volume and surface area, students begin to construct chains of reasoning ā laying the groundwork for the more complex geometrical proofs they will encounter at Key Stage 4 and beyond. Students are also formally introduced to GCSE-style exam questions, giving them early opportunities to develop exam technique.
