About Torch: Social Media

Growing a social media presence ultimately has an effect on the number of views on your actual news website. In our case, the more we posted about the student body, the better numbers we had. Our audience loved reading about and seeing themselves but only ended up finding most of our content through social media.

We asked before school started last August what type of content the student body wanted to see, and that not only helped build excitement about the coming school year but it also helped increase the flow to our Instagram page.

All social media platforms are one big circle that's completely intertwined. You post one thing and it affects the others. We use our previously established presence on one account to promote and grow another.

Over our brief time utilizing social media, we have managed to grow our Instagram to the most followed presence at Kennedy High School completely from scratch. We repost relevant media on Facebook to advertise Torch articles and photos as well as other Kennedy events daily. We also run a TikTok in which we post short tutorials or hype videos for Kennedy sports teams to get people interested in projects and events.

Through these mediums, we reach a variety of audiences. A large portion of the student body follows our Instagram for photos and specific reminders or our Facebook for updates from around Kennedy. Our TikTok is engaging and to the point, making our audience aware of necessary information in easily consumable media.

It is for this reason that we've adopted separate posting strategies for each website and why all of them are so effective in both promoting our website and delivering information to the student body.
