Jessica Hinke

Head Coach

Coach Hinke started competitive swimming at age 8 (in 1997). She is a 2007 graduate of Jefferson High School and was a member of the varsity swim team all four years of high school - she competed at State three out of four years, was voted team captain, and earned the Les Santee "Dig in and Do it" award and Jim Taylor award. In addition to competing for the J-Hawks in high school, she also swam for MACR Sharks, Stoney Point Stingrays, CRAA, and the University of Northern Iowa.

Coach Hinke has fond memories of high school swimming and brings that enthusiasm, plus experience swimming for multiple teams to every practice and competition. She believes that all swimmers have the ability to improve and be their best and it's her job as the coach to push every swimmer out of their comfort zone so they can become better.

Coach Hinke started coaching middle school swimming in 2015 and became head coach for the J-Hawks in 2019. She is a biology and earth science teacher at Prairie High School. Coach Hinke is also the vice president of the Iowa High School Swim Coaches Association.

Coach Hinke enjoys reading, coloring, walking her dog Sassy, playing with her daughter Madeline, anything Outlander, and anything swimming! She hopes to travel to Europe again soon - specifically Scotland, Ireland, and France! She is also planning to be a lifeguard at the Olympic Trials in 2024!

Coach Hoogestraat started competitive swimming at the age 8. She is a 2019 graduate of Prairie High School and was a member of the varsity swim team at Jefferson all four years of high school. She then went on to compete in swimming at St. Ambrose University while studying Elementary Education.

Coach Hoogestraat started her coaching path when she was 13 years old. She volunteered to help coach the Cedar Rapids Special Olympics swim team for about 5 years. In college she helped coach a YMCA swim team for a season. This is her first year teaching and coaching for a high school swim team. She is the strat 2 behavior teacher for View Elementary.

Coach Hoogestraat enjoys learning line dances, hanging with friends, and spending time with her pet rabbit, Bentley. She loves any form of potatoes, shoes, getting her nails done, and Shrek. Coach Hoogestraat has always wanted to learn how to cook although she is relatively good at baking.
