Parent FAQ – Cheer & Mascot Tryouts (2026–2027)
Any incoming CISD student who will be enrolled at the appropriate middle school or high school for the 2026–2027 school year and meets all eligibility requirements outlined in the tryout packet may try out.
Yes.
Both the student and a parent/guardian must attend the mandatory parent meeting in order for the student to be eligible to try out. Students who do not attend with a parent/guardian will not be allowed to participate in tryouts.
The tryout packet will be posted on the school cheer webpages:
Middle School: SCMS / RAMS / CMS / HFS Cheer webpages
High School: CHS / NCHS Cheer webpages
The packet includes all required forms, dates, expectations, and instructions.
Tryout packets may be submitted online through the designated submission link or in person to the school’s front office by the deadline listed.

Yes.
All athletes must attend the tryout clinic for their level. The clinic teaches the material that will be evaluated at tryouts, including:
Jumps
Motions
Technique
Cheer
Tryout Dance
Attendance is required to try out.
No.
Because cheer is a team-based, commitment-driven activity, all clinic days and tryout dates are mandatory. Absences may result in disqualification from tryouts unless otherwise approved by the coaching staff.
Yes.
Cheer tryouts are competitive, and not all participants will be selected. Teams are chosen based on skill execution, performance quality, attitude, effort, and overall readiness.
Information regarding tryout results will be shared via the band app meeting. Please follow the directions provided for how and when results will be released.
Cheerleading is a year-long commitment and may include:
Practices before and after school
Games, pep rallies, and school events
Competitions (if applicable)
Camps and summer activities
