What is The Case of the Empty Tomb?

The Case of the Empty Tomb is an Easter Experience written and designed by crossteach. This is a video based resource and is designed to help pupils explore the events surrounding the resurrection of Jesus and to help them come to their own conclusions about what happened. This resource also explains what Christians believe about the resurrection of Jesus and why this Easter celebration is important to Christians.

It is based on the premise of the pupils helping Shamrock Hermes and Dr Watkins to investigate the unsolved cold Case of the Empty Tomb to find out what happened to Jesus after he died. Pupils do this by

  • Watching videos looking at four possible scenarios for what could have happened to Jesus' body

  • Examining the evidence for each scenario through answering questions on a worksheet

  • Coming to their own conclusions about which scenario is most likely

  • Taking part in an optional reflection activity

Who is it for?

The Case of the Empty Tomb has been designed for pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9.

How can it be used?

The Case of the Empty Tomb has been designed for pupils to watch the videos together as a class in school and then to have a class discussion to help them come up with their conclusions. To get the most out of the resource, it is recommended that a crossteach worker comes into the school to deliver this resource, however, this can be delivered by a teacher in the class.

This resource can also be delivered virtually, over the internet using a service such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom, and can be used by pupils on their own at home.

How long does it take?

This resource is designed to be completed in 30-45 minutes, depending on the length of class discussion.
