Information for Churches

What is The Case of the Empty Tomb?

The Case of the Empty Tomb is an Easter Experience written and designed by crossteach. This resource is video based and is designed to help young people explore the events surrounding the resurrection of Jesus and to help them come to their own conclusions about what happened. This resource also explains what Christians believe about the resurrection of Jesus and why this Easter celebration is important to Christians.

It is based on the premise of the pupils helping Shamrock Hermes and Dr Watkins to investigate the unsolved cold Case of the Empty Tomb to find out what happened to Jesus after he died. Young people do this by

  • Watching videos looking at four possible scenarios for what could have happened to Jesus' body

  • Examining the evidence for each scenario through answering questions on a worksheet

  • Coming to their own conclusions about which scenario is most likely

  • Taking part in an optional reflection activity

Who is it for?

The Case of the Empty Tomb has been designed for pupils aged 10-14, but can be used by other age groups if you deem appropriate.

How can it be used?

This resource can be delivered virtually, over the internet using a service such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom, and can be used by pupils on their own at home.

How long does it take?

Run a live Easter Experience at your church

Our Easter and Christmas Experiences are a fantastic way to invite local school pupils to your Church. Each Experience lasts for an hour for a class of up to 30 pupils. The Experiences are suitable for pupils from Year 5 to Year 8. If there is a crossteach team in your area then get in touch to find out how to set up an Experience in your church. For areas without a crossteach team, we also run training days for clergy and youth workers who are interested in using the Experience in their own church.
