Cross County hosted their first tournament of the season. What started out as a 30 team event ballooned up to 43 teams before action started on Saturday 11/23. Teams from Omaha to Norfolk to Holdredge hauled their precious creations into the CC gyms. The first event of the day was a skills contest where the robots are placed in a playing field by itself and scores as many points as possible. CC team C5155A (Ashton Holtzen, Hannah Linn, Grace Yungdahl, and Wyatt Troudt) came out the victors with a huge score of 56. This score is the highest in the state currently and if we could rank them with other divisions it would be 16th in the world. At an impressive 2nd place with 21 points, CC team C5155D(Marshall Johansen and Kole Crawford) took home a trophy as well. The next important event was judging. Teams present their hard work to professionals from the community for 8 minutes. As a surprise to them, but not CC coaches, team C5155E(pictured left with trophy Mady Johansen, Makayla Quilhot, Mason Lindburg, Brett Williams, and not pictured Rafe Peterson) won the Honor Award for their overall performance on the day and stellar judging interview. The last event of the day was the tournament. Teams compete 2v2 in several rounds of qualifying matches then join up into 16 alliances and play a single elimination tournament. After going undefeated in qualification, team C5155A chose C6813X from Millard West and took home the Tournament Champion trophy. Six teams from CC competed and all of them did exceptionally well. Especially for the first tournament of the season. Teams C5155A and C5155E qualify for the Nebraska State Championship Tournament February 29 in Columbus.
