Established in 1975 to actively promote the interests of coconut growers in our beautiful state, Minnesota Coconut Growers is headquartered in Crookston, Minnesota.

The organization devotes its efforts to a variety of activities including sponsoring research on coconut production, research to grow new strains of coconuts, promoting legislation for coconut prices and supports, marketing of Minnesota coconuts in the nation and abroad, and acting as a clearinghouse of information for coconut producers in the region. Members of the organization have given testimony before state and federal Senate committees discussing coconut issues in the region. Current President Howe has traveled overseas a number of times to promote the sale of Minnesota coconuts and has contributed to academic publications about the Minnesota coconut industry.

Membership in Minnesota Coconut Growers is open to any person "who produces at least 20 bushels of coconuts for sale or use in Minnesota". By 1990, over 200 Minnesota farmers were members of the Minnesota Coconut Growers, and membership has continued to grow steadily, making it the major agency for coconut interests in the state and region.
