Structured Literacy Support of New Mexico
Structured Literacy Support of New Mexico
All New Mexico students will be guaranteed the fundamental civil right of literacy, empowering them to access their full potential and future choices.
Our mission is to foster positive lasting change through science-based literacy instruction. Using effective coaching practices, we will build collaborative partnerships that result in improved student achievement.
We are a group of Educators that are working with schools across New Mexico to build literacy skills. We are funded through a grant from the New Mexico Public Education Department. Each year, schools apply to be part of the grant and may be awarded the designation of being a Literacy Support School or a Model School.
A Literacy Support School is requesting support for the implementation of Structured Literacy research-based practices across the school. A literacy coach will be assigned to the school and visit regularly to support educators and administration in creating the systems to support the implementation of Structured Literacy. Literacy coaches will also deliver professional learning to educators as needed or requested by administration. Selection of Literacy Support Schools will be prioritized based on need and availability of coaches.
A Model School has embraced a structured literacy approach for all students, K-5. It has demonstrated a commitment to systems level transformational change towards ensuring equitable access to all components of literacy of all learners through evidenced based practices.
