My philosophy as a therapist is that life doesn't have to get to a level of "bad or wrong" in order for therapy to be a good choice for you. While those are definitely good reasons to seek out therapy, sometimes it's just feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just wanting a little support to talk about stress or changes you want to make to help you understand yourself better. Therapy is a nonjudgemental place to build coping skills, process emotions, and gain clarity about things you want to change.
I'm definitely biased - I believe therapy is great for everyone.
That happens and it's totally okay. You may find that therapy doesn’t feel like the right fit at first. We talk about uncomfortable things so therapy will not always be a comfortable experience. However, a good therapist understands that process. I welcome feedback on things that are working and especially on things that are not working for you. I want my clients to feel empowered to ask questions and I love to be transparent about therapy techniques and the "why" behind certain techniques we may practice together.
Therapy is meant to support you and finding the right fit in your therapist is part of the process. If you attend a session with me and you don't feel like we are a good fit, not only do I want to know, I want to help you find the best therapist for you.
The length of time in therapy varies for each person and depends on your goals, needs, and circumstances. Some people benefit from short-term therapy focused on a specific concern, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper exploration and ongoing support.
You and I work together to make some goals that feel relevant and meaningful to you and then we explore ways to track your progress together. I talk openly with clients about how often and how long to attend therapy and that is all individualized to you, your schedule, your finances, and especially your well-being.
Well, there's paperwork. Quite a bit of it. I've made it all online so that you can work at completing it at your pace and on your time. There's no coming 30 mintues earlier to your appointment get it completed. That first appointment is stressful enough because you're trying something new. Once that paperwork is completed, we get our first appointment set up and scheduled.
If you're ready to take a look at that paperwork, all I need if your legal name and your email address. Paperwork can be emailed to you with no commitment of attending sessions attached to it.
Therapy coverage depends on your specific insurance plan. Most insurance plans do offer mental health benefits but coverage can vary based on factors like your deductible, copay, and whether the therapist is in-network. I'm in network with many insurances in our area and I work with folks to understand their insurance to the best of my ability.
I typically suggest that it’s a good idea to contact your insurance company directly to understand your benefits and any costs. Typically there is a phone number for member services on the back of your insurance card or many companies now offer online descriptions of what is covered. If you have any questions, I'm happy to work with you to get them answered.
Since individual insurance plans dictate cost of sessions, sometimes those costs may still feel out of reach. I offer payment plans to further help make therapy accessible. You and I can discuss the per session cost that insurance decides for us and then use that to find a lower payment that we extend out over time and create a plan that fits you. I don't want therapy access to be an additional stress.
