Welcome to Tinkertime! Today we will have fun with marble runs. But first...

Please work respectfully and responsibly with others at your station. What does that look like?

• • • Share materials, 

    • keep noise down....classes around you might be working!

    • be kind to each other and work cooperatively, 

    • keep your working space neat,

    • when directed, clean up your area and look for others to help clean up their area too,

    • pack supplies back neatly in the bin, because another class will be trying these activities.  

Now let's get started!

The class will divide in half.

One half of the class will create "homemade" marble runs.  

The other half will use marble run kits to create a run using gadgets.  

• STEP 1: Watch our un-packing video

• STEP 2: Read through the directions for both halves as a class.  

• STEP 3: Students can work alone or form teams.  They will have a short "spontaneous" challenge to complete in 10 minutes.  Here is a link to a timer!

• STEP 4: Discussion and Sharing - leave your marble runs and sit together as a class to talk about what worked well and what is difficult.  What would you change if you had more time?

• STEP 5:  Switch so you can try out the other method.  Set a new timer for 10 minutes. Here is a link to a timer!

• STEP 6:  Discussion and Sharing - leave your marble runs and sit together as a class to discuss:  How did it go? Was it easier/harder than your first challenge?  What would you change if you had more time?

• STEP 7:  If time, students may choose to design their own marble runs.  Pick up a design form to choose a new challenge, make a quick sketch of what you'd like to try, pick up your supplies and get started!
