Welcome to Pathways!
Program Overview
The Cranford Public School District strives to maximize student achievement through the development of a rigorous standards-aligned curricula. Additionally, teachers are trained to provide a differentiated instructional program to meet the needs of individual students. The district also acknowledges the need to provide specialized services for students that are exceptionally able. The Pathways to Excellence (P2E) Program provides a continuum of services across the district to address the learning needs of gifted and talented students. Please reference the P2E services page for additional information.
The first opportunity for identification is in grade 2, but while our identification process is thorough and has multiple criteria, we believe the process of finding students that would benefit from P2E should be ongoing. To this end, in grades 3 through 7 the identification process is initiated by teacher and/or parent nominations.
Each year, the Pathways to Excellence staff develops a new curriculum based on an annual theme. This year, we are riding the sound waves with On the Air, where communication meets creativity through podcasting and media broadcasting! Students will undergo an exploration of the speech arts by practicing and developing skills in public speaking, storytelling, interviewing, and broadcast journalism. As the year progresses, we will explore cutting-edge 21st century audio-digital tools and media technology to create and produce our own speech arts project.
