These are some great resources to start introducing technology in the classroom. I have separated the technology into Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced to help you decide which you may like to use based on your comfort in technology. Links are embedded in the title to allow for easy access to the resources.
Beginners-
Beginners-
- Google Classroom
- This is a great tool to help flip your classroom, communicate assignments with students, assign exit tickets, online quizzes and other assessments. It is very intuitive to learn to use.
- Google Sheets
- I like using this as oppose to other online word processing programs because of the ease of collaborating with others. The document can be edited in realtime.
- Google Translate
- While it may not be a perfect translation, this tool is useful to translate websites, articles and other information from different countries. This can be a great tool to get a different perspective of an event. There is an app, too, that can be used to translate documents by holding a mobile device and using the camera, the app will translate the words. - Twitter
- Students can add comments to your #topic, or students can tweet the most valuable point in the class under a hashtag and use it as a review. There are a great deal of imaginative ways to have students engage with the curriculum using twitter.
- Flipgrid
- This is a video discussion forum and can be a fun way for a quick formative assessment. You can create a mini lesson and have students reflect on the content with videos and responses to each other.
- Padlet
- This is another interactive online tool to help assess students and allow them to collaborate with each other. This allows input as a written post, a photograph, a video or even a
- Voicethread
- A great interactive online tool. Teachers could post videos or lessons and students could comment or collaborate on the instruction. Students could also present media and have their classmates comment on their work.
Advanced-
Advanced-
- Project Look Sharp
- A collaborative from Ithaca College, this resource has lesson geared toward digital literacy and critical thinking skills. There are lesson plans for a great deal of disciplines with the support for teachers to help increase the ability of students to be critical and analytical of the media they are exposed to.
- Iearn
- If you want to start making lessons that help your students "learn with the world and not about it", this is the website to help find projects to work with and integrate into your classroom. Once you have found a project, you can meet with a class to work on tackling the problem and trying to figure out how it can help the world population.
- Online newspapers.com
- For classrooms that may want a different perspective of world issues, this is a way to help incorporate it into the curriculum. Use with google translate to explore many different world views.
- Edutopia
- I can't say enough about this website. It has a great deal of information including articles on how to improve digital literacy, how to incorporate project-based learning into classroom and improvement of students socio-emotional well being.
- EPals
- If you are still wondering how to connect your class with a class somewhere around the world, this is a good place to start. With EPals, you can connect with a classroom in the world and talk about similar topics.
- Mystery skype
- If you want to get your students more globally aware, this is a great way to start. Two classrooms around the world are connected via Skype. The students ask each other questions to learn where they are located. A fun way to reach out to others in the world.
- Skype a scientists
- Do you want your classroom to be able to talk, interact or learn from a scientist? This is the tool for that. For students who are thinking about a career in science, to those who just wanted to know what the day to day life of a scientist is, this group will match you with a scientist who is interested in talking with you.
