The Cooperative Education (Co-Op) program offers Chapter 74 CTE students an exceptional opportunity to deepen their education within their chosen career and technical education (CTE) field. Through hands-on, industry-based experiences, students enhance their knowledge and gain invaluable employability skills, preparing them for success in the workforce. The program is available to seniors and rising seniors during the summer months.
The earliest that students may apply is at the end of their junior year for a summer co-op. The application process is open during the senior year.
Maintain a B or better in their CTE program
Maintain a C- or better in ALL Academic classes
Obtain the recommendation of their CTE teacher along with an 80% or better on the written and practicum content exam.
Have a record that demonstrates adherence to the conduct and attendance policy.
Employers complete a co-op application
Employers submit the following: a certificate of liability showing proof of workers compensation coverage and a CORI form for the direct supervisor.
A site safety inspection at the worksite takes place
A co-op contract between the student, the employer and the schools is signed.
Our co-ops are half-day, unlike traditional week-on-week-off vocational schools. Our seniors attend academic classes in the morning and leave for co-op at 10:15 a.m. or 11:06 a.m.
Co-op employers are required to pay students at least minimum wage.
