Tools
Tools of the Trade:
Basic tools can be purchased at any craft store such as Joanne's or Michaels and Walmart . has a well stocked craft department that should have whatever you need to get started! Specialty yarn stores are fun to shop in but can be expensive.
Crochet Hook(s) - Hooks come in various sizes and range in price, I suggest starting with a basic aluminum hook (size 5, 5.5, or 6).
Yarn - Yarn comes in a wide range of colors, quantities, weights, fibers, and prices; it can be a bit overwhelming to choose on your own! I recommend starting with an inexpensive acrylic in a light color (it's hard to see the stitches with dark colored yarn!), and a worsted weight.Crochet Penguin - Best Yarn for Crochet
Yarn/Tapestry/Darning Needle - Whatever you call it, it is useful for weaving in the ends and for joining pieces (optional).
Stitch Markers: These little guys can come in handy for keeping track of what row you're on, especially when working in a round (optional).
Scissors - Nothing fancy, just a basic pair of scissors for snipping yarn.
Measuring Tape - This is helpful for checking size, and ensuring you are on track with your project, stitch sizes can vary for many reasons including tightness of the stitch and yarn used. Free Printable Tape Measure
