Slip Knot/Slip Stitch

A slip knot is what you use to get the yarn on the hook and it is used to start every crochet project.  This first loop onto your hook is not counted as a chain or stitch.  There are different methods for making a slip knot, but they all end with the same result.

This short video shows you three different ways to make a slip knot, my personal preference is a variation of the 3rd!

We all learn differently, if you prefer to learn from a picture, these links will take you to sites that offer illustrations along with videos.

Chain Stitch

The chain stitch is one of the most basic, but is also the foundation on which your projects is built so it is important to be precise and consistent with your foundation chain.  When you begin any pattern, the instructions will tell you how many chains to start with; the number of chains determines the height or width of the project.
