Current Work

School Year '22-23

This year, we are building off of last year's work of listening and reflection. We are doing this in several ways:

  • School Council:

    • Our school council, which also serves as our equity team, has identified two main areas of focus based on feedback we received last year from students, family and educators: 1) Academic challenge & rigor for all students; 2) Communication.

    • Over the course of this year, school council will help develop some action steps for these two areas of focus.

    • To stay updated with the work, please check out our school council's running notes>>.

  • Staff Professional Development: Grading for Equity

    • One action step we have already taken is to provide an opportunity for all our staff to engage in professional development around Grading for Equity.

Equity Data Story

  • As a school, our ultimate goal is for all students to grow. As a school that cares about equity, we believe that growth should happen equally across all demographics.

    • Our MCAS data shows that we still have achievement gaps between the percent of White students who meet or exceed MCAS grade-level standards and Black students. RAUC is not alone–this gap is found across the district and state.

    • However, we have seen that gap shrinking since we started our equity work.

      • For example, in 2017, there was a gap of 32% between how much the MCAS ELA scores of White students grew compared to those of Black students. That gap has been steadily shrinking. In spring 2022, the gap was 9%.

      • It’s also important to note that all students regardless of their demographic made at least typical growth in their ELA MCAS scores.

        • This was not the case in 2017.

      • In Math, the gap between Black and White achievement has also decreased from 2017-2022.

  • If you would like to explore it on your own, all data is public on the state website>>.
