Grade 2

Dear Families,

Please see the MLK school Grade 2 calendar below for reading and writing activities for the month of April.

  1. The activities are optional. We at MLK understand that every family’s circumstances differ. For those who want or need academic activities for your children during the school day, each day’s suggestion will help reinforce the skills previously taught this year. If these activities feel too overwhelming on any given day, that’s okay.

  2. You are your child’s parent first. We do not expect you, as parents, to be introducing new content or bringing your child to grade level. When school resumes, coaches, interventionists, and teachers will work together to make sure all students are prepared for the next grade.

  3. If you do one activity with your child every day, please read with them, listen to an audiobook, or enjoy a storytelling podcast. In second grade, parents’ biggest role is to nurture their children’s love of reading. Not only does family story time reduce stress, but the joy and positive associations relaxing with a story creates will have an impact on your child’s reading development long after school reopens.

If you have questions at any time, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are here for you.

With care,

Kelly Petitt (literacy coach) for Ms Holm, Mrs Lewis, Mrs McEachern, Ms Staveley, and Ms v.
