The purpose of using GoGuardian is NOT to "catch" kids when they have wandered off and play "Gotcha!" The purpose of using GoGuardian in our teaching should be twofold. We want to:
Strike the critical balance between limiting distractions to support student engagement and reduce cognitive load, and
Use insights to help facilitate teachable moments around digital citizenship, digital literacy and critical thinking, and social-emotional learning
Before you roll out GoGuardian, it is important for us as educators to:
Think about the specific student behavior goals you hope to accomplish with GoGuardian. Plan out the ways you’ll use specific features (scenes, launch link, teacher chat...) to support your goals and great pedagogy.
Discuss classroom expectations with your students that include how you intend to use GoGuardian Teacher to help guide their learning.
Regularly review GoGuardian feedback (student reports, tracker data, etc.) and adjust student goals and feature usage to develop student independence.
Respect other teachers' time/teaching schedules. You shouldn't be looking at students if they aren't in front of you. By trying to monitor students outside of your own class time you may be interfering with a colleague's class time.
GoGuardian syncs with ClassLink/Aspen, so your classes should be already enrolled and ready to go once you hit Accept under "Pending" Classes.
