Comics In the Classroom

Introduction:

As educators, we must accept that the “old school” definitions of literacy are no longer relevant for current day students.  Their days are packed full of media in so many forms -- music, video, social media, infographics, and more. We can’t just focus on teaching students to decipher sentence structures.  We need to help them decipher and communicate the messages they get from all over. Working with comic books and graphic novels “offers an engaging medium for asking students to analyze information and persuasion in different ways." (Expanding Literacies Through Graphic Novels, Gretchen Schwarz)

I've put together these pages in hopes of encouraging CSUS educators to start incorporating comics into our classrooms!
