Assisting with summer school preparation gave me valuable insight into leadership. My responsibilities included organizing supplies for teachers based on student rosters, editing and revising the opening presentation, adapting the summer school handbook to ensure consistency, and creating posters and rosters to help students find their classes easily. I also walked around to make sure teachers had what they needed and stepped in to provide resources when something was missing. Through this experience, I learned how leadership often comes down to attention to detail, clear communication, and anticipating the needs of both staff and students. I came to the realization of how essential it is to streamline processes for teachers so they can put their focus on other things. Strong leadership is proactive, collaborative, and responsive. I will continue to build my skills and grow through these experiences.
During summer school and beginning-of-year prep, I gained a clearer picture of what effective leadership looks like by taking on responsibilities such as checking in buses, monitoring attendance, assisting with meals, supervising students, and helping with dismissal. These tasks showed me the importance of organization, flexibility, and clear communication in keeping operations smooth. I also observed the administrative team as they organized staff, set leadership roles, and assigned rooms, which highlighted how leadership is built on collaboration, delegation, and trust rather than one person having all the answers. Moving forward, I want to carry these lessons into my own leadership by building strong systems, valuing the strengths of team members, and balancing planning with adaptability to create a supportive environment where both students and staff can be successful.
Our bus drivers are all that and a bag of chips! They are a crucial part of our school system. As a leader, it is essential to build relationships with everyone who interacts with your school. Our drivers help keep our kids safe on the road!
Handing out goody bags to all the bus drivers. I have communicated with many of them during my duty time. We shared the highs and lows of the day. To people on the outside, transporting students to and from school seems easy, but it's not. I just wanted to give them something to show my appreciation!!
