Just Drop It ! {Egg Drop Challenge} INERTIA ROCKS
Materials Needed:
1 plastic cup of water with a mouth wide enough to fit the egg.
1 10 inch piece of cardboard or a tray with a smooth bottom
1 cardboard tube {paper towel or toilet paper tube works well
1 egg {Cooked or if you want drama used uncooked}
What You Do: {I would do this outside because it could get messy!} Fun family experiment
Cup on flat surface. Fill cup 1/2 to 2/3 with water. Place the cardboard or tray over the cup.
Place the tube on its end in the center of the tray.
Place the egg horizontally on the tube.
When ready, strike the tray hard enough with the palm to sent the tray flying, but not so hard you hit the glass of water. If all goes well, the tray and the paper tube will go flying, but the egg will drop into the water.
Please send me a picture of your set-up and let me know how it works out. Email (jbracken@cpsc.k12.in.us) or tweet (@BrackenJeffery) pictures or video to me. I love to see what you do. I would use a hard boiled egg to start and DEFINITELY get a parent's approval first. {Can you figure out how this works. I'll post a explanation and a video at a later date.

Egg Drop: I got this.
Inertia describes how much energy one needs to move or stop an object from moving. The tray & tube have little mass {less weight} and are very is to move out of the way. = Little inertia The egg weighs the more {more mass/ more inertia} and is not as easy to move. Therefore, gravity will bring it straight down into the cup
