All incoming 7th-12th grade students interested in attending SCPA must complete an artistic audition.

Artistic talent is evaluated by SCPA artistic faculty members.
Demonstration of artistic talent and ability in visual art for the corresponding grade level.
Demonstration of exemplary school behavior, discipline, and attendance at the applicant’s current and former schools.
Demonstration of a positive and enthusiastic attitude toward learning and an ability to work cooperatively with others.

Visual Arts Portfolio Requirements:
Include 6-8 works of art from the last two years
Work should demonstrate various techniques, including drawing/painting from observation, design, creative work, color work, and sketchbook drawings.
Small sculptures may be carefully packaged and brought in; otherwise, take quality pictures from multiple vantage points.
Visual Arts Resume
Include name, age, address, phone numbers, parent e-mail, school attendance, extra-curricular activities, classes and workshops, awards, exhibitions, and special interests/talents. Resumes are in outline form and must not exceed one page.
In-person Audition process
Students will complete one observational still-life drawing and one creative exercise during their in-person audition. The Visual Arts department will provide materials for this.
All work should demonstrate student’s ability to translate lines, shapes, forms, texture, space, perspective, and proportion into a composition utilizing a strong grasp of craftsmanship. Traced work is not acceptable.
Observational artwork (still life, landscape, cityscape, figurative, or nature study) created from real-life subjects using quality materials (graphite, charcoal, ink, pastel).
Observational artwork (still life, landscape, cityscape, figurative, or nature study) created from real-life objects using quality materials (acrylic, watercolor, oil) on canvas or bristol board.
Three-dimensional work created in ceramic, cardboard, fabric, wire, wood, plaster, glass.
Work created with natural or synthetic fiber such as fabric or yarn. The work can focus on the material or the labor of the artist.
Observational artwork created from a real-life object utilizing a mix of mediums.
Observational artwork created from real-life objects created using vectors and/or pixels.
Images captured with a film or digital camera printed on quality photography paper.
Work of up to five minutes of timeline-based art.
Art work created with cut paper.
Work are produced by drawing or carving an image onto a hard surface and using ink to create the final image.
