Advisory is a space for all students in CPS, grades 3-12, to be heard, be known, and be understood. The four goals of Advisory are increasing Social Emotional Learning, increasing community building capacity, monitoring students' academic progress, and assisting with post-secondary exploration and planning. This curriculum is research- based and rooted in best practices. We plan to have every student graduate ready for their chosen career path with the tools needed to be successful.
Here are some statistics about successful Advisory programs:
Students who participate in SEL programs show 11-17% percentile gain in academics.
For every dollar invested on SEL, it returns $11 through less behavior interventions, less academic interventions, greater retention among students, less drug abuse, among other positive outcomes.
School violence decreases by 42%, according to students in an SEL program but a study of discipline referrals from PowerSchool shows a decrease closer to 57%.
Career Advising and Social Emotional Learning are the law in the state of Ohio.
