EarlySteps is a state-level early intervention program (operating under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that provides support and services to families with infants and toddlers, from birth to age 3, who have developmental delays or medical conditions likely to result in delays.
Eligibility:
Ages: Birth to 3 years old
Areas of Concern: Cognitive, Motor (walking, crawling), communication, social-emotional, or adaptive skills.
Medical Conditions: Certain diagnoses automatically qualify a child for the program.
Process:
Referral: Anyone can make a referral - parents, doctors, or childcare providers. You can download the referral form from the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) website or call the Region 7 office.
Evaluation: Within 45 days of referral, an evaluation is conducted to determine if the child meets the eligibility criteria.
Service Plan: If eligible, a team creates an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) to provide services such as speech or physical therapy, or special instruction in your home or daycare.
