Chris Cassidy has been the baseball coach at Whitney Young for the past 29 years and has OVER 500 total wins. Chris Cassidy is a lifelong Chicagoan who started his career playing on the far southeast side of the city, playing high school baseball at Mt. Carmel and walking on to the UIC baseball team and playing for 3 years. He has led the Dolphins to 6 city final appearances, 3 city championships, and 1 supersectional appearance.
Tita Kontodiakos took the newly formed Whitney Young Girls Badminton team to a 3rd place finish in the city in her first year of coaching. This is the inaugural year for our badminton performance camp.
Mike Hinrichs is in his 15th season as the Dolphins Head Coach. During his tenure the softball program has won 4 City Championships, 4 Regional Championships, and is the only CPS program to win multiple Sectional Championships. The Dolphins have traveled to ESPN Disney Spring Break, Myrtle Beach Cal Ripken Experience and Destin Florida Beach Bash. There are currently 13 alumni playing in college and of the current team all are pursuing softball at the next level.
Carl Abram has been coaching tennis for the past 15 years and playing competitive tennis since the early 90’s. In 9 years at Whitney Young he has won 8 girls city championships and 6 boys city championships. In 2017-18 the girls tennis team won the State Championship, a feat which no other Chicago Public School has accomplished. Our camp will focus on developing fundamentals and skills in order to play competitive tennis in both singles and doubles.
Tyrone Slaughter has been the head coach of the Whitney Young boys basketball program since 2005. His teams have won 3 State championships and 3 CPL City Championships.
Nick Maksa is entering his second season as the boys head coach. Coach Maksa was the Varsity assistant for two years, before he was elevated to head job in summer of 2022. He joined us from Naperville North where he was an assistant on the 2017 & 2018 State Champions, he also an assistant on the girls soccer staff that won a State Championship in 2019.
Dan Finger is a former and player and now Head Coach of the Whitney Young Football Program. He has been the head coach for the past 4 seasons. In the 21-22 season his team finished 7-3 and qualified for the state tournament.
Dan Fillenwart is the director of elementary school sports at Whitney Young. He coaches and oversees all of the 7th/8th grade sports programs of the Whitney Young Academic Center.
Michael Quevedo is a former Whitney Young volleyball player and now the head coach for both the boys and girls volleyball programs.
