What is Link Crew? Link Crew is a nationwide peer-mentoring program designed to train Link Leaders to be mentors and role models at school and in the community. The primary focus is to improve school culture and climate by mentoring a group of incoming Freshmen and helping them start high school feeling welcomed and supported.
What is a Link Leader? A Link Leader is a high school Junior or Senior who has applied and been accepted into Link Crew and has attended the required training and orientation. A Link Leader is paired with one other Link Leader, and together, they mentor a group of 10 Freshmen throughout the year.
What training will I need? Link Leaders are required to attend the following three events of training:
May Day: Wednesday, May 21st
Leader Training: Saturday, August 9th- Sunday, August 10th
Freshmen Reach Out: Thursday, August 14 (12:00 pm am-3:00 pm)
Freshman Orientation: Friday, August 15th (7:00am-2:00pm)
I'm busy one of those days, can I still participate? Unfortunately, attendance at all three trainings and orientation for the entire time is required. It is considered a demonstration of your level of commitment to the program. There are no exceptions to this rule.
A teacher didn't recommend me! Can I still participate? Totally! Teacher evaluations are only one aspect of the recruitment process. We rely on referrals from current Link Leaders and self-motivated individuals who apply themselves.
My schedule is busy and I don't think I can take the LINK Crew class, will that hurt my chances? Not taking the LINK class will NOT hurt your chances of being accepted as LINK leader. Although we would LOVE to have you in the class that meets daily, it is not a requirement for all LINK leaders.
Can I earn community service hours? Absolutely! All time spent outside of school at Link Crew training or events earns you community service hours. At a minimum, you will receive 30+ community service hours from working at Freshmen Connection alone. Link Leaders typically earn around 15-20 hours of community service per year.
I won't be here for Freshmen Connection. What do I do? No worries! Not all LINK leaders need to be here for Freshmen Connection (July 7th- 18th); ALL LINK leaders MUST attend Freshmen Orientation (August 15th).
Sounds good! How can I apply? Fill out the Google form by clicking the "Leader Application" tab above. Also, be sure to attend informational sessions after school. If you miss these meetings, don't panic! Contact Ms. Pauley or Mr. Hafeli with any questions or apply. Applications are due no later than January 26th at 11:59pm.
