Technology is a tool that has the potential to enhance and transform your classroom and the learning experiences accessible to all kids. Its purposeful implementation can result in students creating, designing, collaborating, researching, and exploring content, concepts, and skills in ways that may have previously seemed unimaginable.

That said, the technology is only tool, albeit a powerful one. We must recognize that a shift in our practices and belief systems must precede technology integration. A great place to start with this shift is the SAMR model, which describes a fluid continuum of technology integration and implementation, ranging from Subsitution to Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. Below are several models to help you better understand the SAMR framework and how you might be able to use it as a guide to shift your instructional practices:

Each of these frameworks provide a simplified context through which we can better understand the SAMR model for technology integration. Notice, as implementation practices move along the continuum from substitution to redefinition, the instructional practice also moves from teacher led to student driven. It is also important to note that the SAMR model is a continuum and that various instructional tasks may fall along any point of the continuum. Practice should not "live in" any one aspect of the SAMR model, but rather move throughout the continuum as you choose specific technology tools to complete purposeful learning tasks.
