PAWS Donation Delivery Day!!!

Following up on our donation drive for PAWS Chicago, we recently dropped off the donation boxes and we were given a certificate! We collected a total of 3 large boxes of pet food, pet toys, and many more items for PAWS Chicago. When we brought the donation boxes to PAWS, they were very happy with the outcome!

Kindergarten Helpers

This year, we have continued our Kindergarten Helpers program with Ms. Riggilo's kindergarten class. We meet with kindergarten students twice a month to play reading and math games with them that we have created. We hope that we can help these students to improve their math and reading skills by playing fun, educational games! We are excited to be continuing our work with the kndergarten students for the second year in a row!

Adopt a Shelter Dog Month/PAWS Donations

October was Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month! We partnered with PAWS Chicago to help dogs and puppies find their fur-ever homes. We also collected donations for PAWS. Thank you to everyone who donated, adopted or fostered a pet! We collected many bags of pet food and treats, dog and cat toys, stainless steel bowls, chew toys and many more!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

During the month of October, Disney students and staff observed Breast Cancer Awareness month by wearing pink for the day. Many families in our school community have been affected by breast cancer. We believe that we have a powerful community and if we come together, it can become even stronger! Thank you, Ms. Taylor, for sharing this idea with us!

Halloween Team Building

Hello Disney!
On Halloween, we took a break from planning our service projects to get to know each other better by playing team building, Minute- to -Win-it games. It was Team Halloween vs Team Fabulous Five! Each team had one minute to complete each challenge. The first challenge was the mummy wrap challenge using rolls of toilet paper. Team Halloween won that challenge. The next challenge we did was the marshmallow toss - Team Halloween won again! Then, we did a cookie challenge and team Halloween won again! The next challenge was a marshmallow tower building challenge, and, you guessed it, the winner was Team Halloween! Finally, we played Charades. Team Fabulous Five earned a few more points during Charades. The final score was 7 - 3 with Team Halloween winning it all!

National Dessert Day!

In honor of National Dessert Day (October 14th), the Service Learning Club partnered with Ms. Avendt to provide three lucky homerooms with a special dessert prize as a part of the Back-to-School Bingo Challenge. Congratulations to Ms. Ortiz's class (2nd grade), Ms. Hernandez's class (Kdg), and Ms. Grace's class (7th grade) for winning the dessert prize - smores! Students in Service Learning Club also got to enjoy cookies and cupcakes to celebrate National Dessert Month.
