Schoolwide community agreements, when modeled and practiced by all staff and students, help schools develop a common language around SEL and set expectations for how all staff and students interact with one another. Once finalized, these agreements can be displayed throughout the building and be the subject of SEL Lessons.

Required Evidence for Certification
Norms, values, characteristics, or expectations are communicated schoolwide.
Expectations are taught to students yearly.
Your staff and students utilize and reinforce the expectations and/or reflect on how they contribute to SEL skill development throughout the year.
Planning Guide
Sample Milestones
a) Develop school-wide shared norms in partnership with students, staff, and other stakeholders.
b) Plan a school tour to learn about resources and norms around the building, with each homeroom taking a tour during the first week of school and student leaders giving tours to newcomers throughout the year.
c) Train all paraprofessionals, support staff, and parent volunteers on ways to reinforce school-wide agreements.
d) Post and refer to visuals that serve as reminders of agreements (common areas and classrooms)
e) Regularly refer to/reflect on agreements in individual, class, and/or schoolwide interactions to make connections between the agreements and successes and challenges
